The backlight makes this shot, atleast
for me. The gnu was pawing the earth, raising a cloud
of dust. The soft morning sun in the back allowed me
to get this shot.
While I was taking this shot, there was a leopard sighting
at the next waterhole, as I discovered later.
I still don't regret taking the time to get this shot,
though (or so I keep telling myself).
Personally, I think herbivores are a far greater challenge,
as subjects go. Getting an interesting shot of an impala
or a wildebeest or, in Indian forests, a chital or a
sambar, gives me a greater sense of photographic achievement,
even if it is predator shots that sell more.
